What are the protocols of becoming a guardian home?

A Guardian dog lives with the Guardian home as their pet. We retain breeding rights to that dog for a set period of time. Once the dog’s breeding career is completed, they are spayed or neutered and live for the rest of their life as the guardian home’s pet.

Contractual Agreement

We apply very strict criteria in regards to guardianship which includes a general assessment procedure with potential guardian families. Naturally, the breeding rights and processes are retained by Red Ranch Dogs as well as reasonable access to our dogs during their breeding career. For this reason, a mutually agreed-upon contract is signed by both parties.

Guardian Families Must:

  • Have a fenced yard, own a car, and own a home.

  • Have previous experience with owning a dog or have adequate knowledge of caring for a dog.

  • Not have any other intact male dogs in the home.

  • Be able to provide a puppy or dog with proper health care, nutrition, professional grooming and exercise.

  • Be able to to properly train and socialize a puppy or dog.

  • Be able to drive the dog to and from our home for whelping or breeding.

  • Live within 90 miles of Salado, Texas.

  • Take their puppy/dog to the vet for its annual vaccines and whatever else needed (aside from breeding related visits)

What to Expect:

Only after extensive health testing/genetic testing, reproductive vet checks,  will we start the breeding process.

Female dogs will be brought to us during her heat cycle,  after breeding she will go back home with you for her pregnancy (approximately two months). At around one week before her due date we will board her in our whelping facility and keep her for 7-8 weeks while the litter is whelped. We plan to breed our female dogs no more than 4-5 times in her life.

Male dogs will come every so often for a few days at a time for breeding with our females and for stud service needs.

After the breeding career is completed, we will spay/neuter the dogs and sign over full ownership.

Guardian Families are compensated with each litter for loving and training the dog and coordinating schedules with us.
